I know other bloggers have their favorite and least favorite type of posts, so in this discussion, I will share you my favorites and least favorites type of posts in order with an explanation of why I like/don’t like them. Remember, these are just my opinions and there are no right or wrong answer!
FAVORITES
1. Discussion posts
- there are lots of topics to write about so it’s easy to write them
- very interesting to read
- easy for others to jump into the conversation & interact
2. TBR (to-be-read) posts
- I’m always interested to see what others are reading
- a post I enjoy doing, plus it’s easy to compose one
- see if you and that blogger are reading the same books for that month/week. If so, both of you can even (maybe) read together
3. Book hauls
- I love seeing what others got!
- I can see if we have the same taste in books
- I just get really excited for the people who received books
4. Reviews
- I’m very interested in reading others’ thoughts on a certain book
- I like them because it’s easy for me to see if that book is a yay or nay
5. Wrap up posts (Weekly & Monthly)
- I don’t do wrap ups but I do enjoy reading them
- I like reading about the blogger’s progress during that week/month.
- I love it when the post also includes other posts that happened in the blogosphere
LEAST FAVORITES
1. Book blitz
- I’m just not interested in them
- Sometimes I feel like they are filler posts (“oh I don’t have anything to post so I’ll just do that”)
- I want to read a book blitz post b/c you (the blogger who posted that blitz) is interested in that book, not because you have nothing to post
2. Excerpt posts
- I skip those 98% of the time
- I don’t even read them except if it’s a book I’m dying to read
3. Memes (except STS)
- Again, just not interested
- I feel like sometimes they are just filler posts, too
- Sorry, but sometimes they just bore me
- It turns me off when blogs post memes four times in a row
4. Cover reveals
- Sometimes I do enjoy those posts, but most of the time no
- It’s difficult to interact especially when the book cover is ‘meh’

Looks like we have the same favorites and dislikes! Discussion posts are the best or those posts that teach me stuff, like HTML 🙂 I also really like personal posts. I don’t care for blog tours, blitz and all the different names they have.
me too! I really like tutorials and tips that are blog or book related. I also like personal posts like the “Life of a Blogger” or something like that because I love getting to know other bloggers.
I am pretty similar to you, although I am not so keen on wrap up posts. I mean, I am pretty good at keeping track of what a blog has posted in the last week, and most of the time it’s just a repeat of what I’ve already seen. If the blogger includes discussion links to other blogs, I’m interested, though. Because those are my favourite type of posts. Like you said, it opens the floor to anyone and everyone to share their thoughts and theories regarding the discussion topic. It’s fun, and most of the time allows for lengthy comments (which I like to be able to leave).
I’m not a huge fan of your least favourite posts, either. I’ve never really been interested in promotional type posts. I feel as if there hasn’t been a lot of effort put into the post (I may be guessing here), and the content just really is not there. As for memes – it really depends. I only partake in two now – one where I show a cover that I really love (I have an obsession with pretty covers), and my own Simply Sunday where I share a quote (I love quotes, too). Other than that, I don’t do memes anymore. I used to do pretty much ALL the memes, but that was at the very beginning of my blogging journey when I wasn’t entirely sure of the kind of content I wanted to include. But now I just don’t have much interest in them. I don’t read TTTs, unless it’s an interesting topic or from a blog I know picks awesome books. Waiting on/Wishlist Wednesdays tend to get a bit repetitive, even if you can find upcoming releases.
Even though I don’t participate in any kind of mailbox/stock-take/whatever memes, I love reading them! I love seeing what books people have bought, or been gifted, or received for review. I like knowing more about their reading tastes. And it’s a good way to find out about books that I might not have known about previously.
I also really like it when blogs spice up their posts a little bit, and post things that aren’t really categorised. Like posts about their life outside of blogging. I love learning more about the face behind the words. Also random funny posts are a good read, too.

I love it when wrap up posts include discussion posts, too! I just don’t feel like making wrap up posts because it takes too much time for me haha. I’m not really good at recollecting the books I read and the reviews I’ve done over the month. Yeah, promotional posts are just ‘meh’ for me most of the time. I’ve never done a TTT or Waiting on Wednesday actually. The only meme I do is STS which I do like once or twice a month. I’m more of a review+tbr+discussion posts type of gal haha. Yeah I totally agree. I like posts where you can see the opinions or personality of the blogger. Things like blitzes and cover reveals and things are meh especially when I don’t really care about the books that are being featured. In terms of memes- I only read them occasionally (except StS. I love seeing book hauls too haha) and only when I have a lot of time on my hands because every Tuesday/Wednesday my bloglovin feed gets flooded with TTT/WoW posts and I kinda lose motivation for reading them when there are so many of them lol
Book hauls are totally fun to see + create! Yeahhh my bloglovin’ feed gets flooded by TTT and WoW and I just click “read” or whatever so that it appears that I read the post for me. I usually just skip it.

That’s true how it’s time consuming at times for other people. For me, I get really into my discussion post so it doesn’t take a lot of time. The words just flow for me right away when I’m creating a post.
Like Chiara, I don’t care much for weekly/monthly (esp the weekly ones) wrap up posts either. Discussion posts are the BEST, and I also like to read reviews (if they are well written/interesting/funny). I sometimes do TTT, but other than that memes are not for me (not anymore). And unless it’s a book I’m like DYING for I’m not interested in cover reveals/excerpt. Same with author interviews.
I used to like author interviews, but I feel like it’s boring to read now b/c the questions are recycled from previous interviews. I also like reviews, but I don’t mind if it’s not funny or interesting. What I care for is that the review doesn’t drag on…like if the first paragraph of the review explains how that person bought that book, I always skip it haha. I just want the review to be straightforward and no mumbojumboness irrelevant stuff.

Most of the time I have zero interest in reading the book and always say the same thing in the comments. I like to comment back for everyone.. but sometimes I skip theirs when I don’t see any recent non-book blitz posts 😛
Me too! If I see blitzes that are not interesting, I just skip and well…no comment for them unfortunately even though I want to leave a comment. I just don’t like comments that are not meaningful so imo, it’s better to not receive any comments rather than a not so meaningful comment.
I just love discussion posts! There’s just so much to talk about in the book blogging community that I never tire if it. I love book haul posts too. Always makes my TBR pile even larger 🙂

We definitely have similar tastes there! I don’t care much for cover reveals or blitzes because I’ll most likely see a similar post later on or I HAVE seen one already. As for memes, I usually don’t really look at them unless it’s TTT or the StS of a friend with very similar tastes. You’re right, I don’t like seeing a meme post like… Four times in a row in someone’s blog.

true! There were some times where I saw the same tour posts or cover reveals in a row in my bloglovin’ feed. I’m just like “SKIP.” I love discussion posts too because they are always or usually interesting. 🙂
Great post Leigh, I am exactly the same when it comes to what I like reading. I like reading other people’s reviews, hauls and discussion posts but when it comes to memes and book blitzes, I don’t even click on them half the time.
I most enjoy discussions and reviews, as well. Basically, I enjoy things with original, personal comment. Even some memes fall into this category, like Top Ten Tuesday–which is essentially asking bloggers a question that they can respond to in the vein of “What are ten books you like that ____?” Each blogger’s Top Ten Tuesday will be different, and probably interesting to read. On the other hand, I find memes where bloggers just post a quote or something a bit boring. If I’m not reading the book, the quote doesn’t mean much to me, and it’s difficult to comment on it.
I like some cover reveals, if I’m already looking forward to the book, for example. It’s harder to be excited about the cover of something I’ve never heard of, no matter how gorgeous the cover is. Also, sometimes multiple blogs will have the same cover reveal–which brings us back to the lack of originality problem.

I LOVE discussion posts. Mainly because… well, you can discuss. I like posts I can comment on. I mean, how can you comment on a cover reveal?
I like reviews, to an extent. There are certain bloggers whose style I like, so I’ll read their reviews. But I’m weird. I only read reviews of books I don’t think I’ll read myself.
Some memes I’m okay with. Basically, again, things I can comment on. The top ten memes, are good because they’re not all the same.
I don’t read blitzes or promo posts. I don’t really like book hauls either.

I pretty much agree with you on everything except I also like the TTT meme. WoW is sometimes fun to peruse because I like to discover upcoming releases this way, but Ash and I stopped doing them ourselves. But I typically skip over cover reveals, book promos, excerpts, etc. and discussion posts are my fav! Love this one!

Sometimes TTT interests me but most of the time I skip over it. I used to do something kind of like WoW (I forgot what that meme was called) but I stopped after like 4 posts because I didn’t really like doing it.
