“Tessa Gray should be happy – aren’t all brides happy?
Yet as she prepares for her wedding, a net of shadows begins to tighten around the Shadowhunters of the London Institute.
A new demon appears, one linked by blood and secrecy to Mortmain, the man who plans to use his army of pitiless automatons, the Infernal Devices, to destroy the Shadowhunters. Mortmain needs only one last item to complete his plan. He needs Tessa. And Jem and Will, the boys who lay equal claim to Tessa’s heart, will do anything to save her.”
What a satisfying, page-turner, jaw-dropper conclusion to The Infernal Devices trilogy! I am so happy I continued reading this trilogy after not being a big fan of the first book (Clockwork Angel). There are some crazy rollercoasters that happened in this book that I would have never guessed. I loved the climax and how everything turned out even though it was a bittersweet ending.
The characters and romance were spectacular! I totally ship most of the relationships in this book because they are awesome <3. Spoiler [I totally ship Gideon and Sophie. Like, when I read their scenes, I just die inside because CUTENESS OVERLOAD. Not sure how I feel about the Tessa-Jem-Will love triangle though. At first I loved it, but now Tessa can’t make up her mind lol]. I also enjoyed seeing the characters grow and it still amazes me how these characters are only teenagers! I always thought Jem & Will were like in their mid twenties because of how they spoke and acted but they’re like 17! My favorite character is Sophie though. She is so wise and thoughtful and I’m so happy how her life turned out!
Now the ending… SO DEPRESSING. Spoiler [The epilogue made me so sad since it basically said everyone dies except Magnus, Tessa, and Jem. How depressing Cassandra Clare!] It was so sad especially the epilogue but it was a fantastic end nonetheless. One thing that prevented me from giving this a 5 star is that I still get confused what a Nephilim, Shadowhunter, Downworlder, Silent Brothers blah blah are. I think that wasn’t emphasized enough or explained thoroughly. Overall if you’re hesitant to pick up The Mortal Instruments but want to see what the buzz is all about with these Shadowhunters, I suggest you pick up The Infernal Devices trilogy! The writing style is beautiful and the characters have so much depth and flaws that it’ll be hard to not fall in love with them!
